Fairy-Tales By The Fire: Otherworldly Magic On Stage!

Fairy-Tales by the Fire

Music, magic, and fun!

I’m back from Fairy-Tales by the Fire, a stage adaptation of two Russian fairy tales performed in Russian. You’ll want to bring your kid and/or the kid in you to this show because it strives to and, in fact, manages to create a bit of otherworldly magic on stage. There is lovely live original music, excellent costuming, and delightful and committed character acting from Eugene Borissov and Alexander Vetrov. Notably, Anastasia Iskhakova, who plays the principle characters in each tale, is incredibly charismatic and engaging. If I was a talent scout, I’d be signing her up.

As far as the whole other-language thing goes, Russian is a pretty neat language to listen to and, having just read the English summary that is thoughtfully provided, I don’t feel I missed too much. We are, after all, talking about fairy tales. I spoke to at least one other non-Russian speaker, who also said she enjoyed the show.

If you have any doubts about whether or not this show will be fun for a non-Russian speaking kid (of whatever age), check out this picture, featuring Ms. Iskhakova and Nadine Thornhill‘s Son of Sons (who already has a knack for catching the eye of leading ladies)!

At any rate, I’m very much looking forward to this company’s next effort, The Little Prince, which will be in English. Unfortunately, Fairy-Tales by the Fire only plays one time, tomorrow, Jan. 9th, at 12PM (Alumni Auditorium U of O). If you can find the time, before or after brunch, I think you will enjoy yourself!
